First-ever Asian Rubber
Conference brings together experts on Rubber Technology from various
countries

representation from trade and industry

Shri Santosh Gangwar, Honble Minister of State for Petroleum and
Natural Gas, Govt of India, inaugurated the first-ever Asian conference
on rubber technology today in New Delhi. Stressing the importance of
rubber in everyday life, Shri Gangwar said,
the annual
turnover of the Indian Rubber Industry amounts for Rs 12,000 Crore, out
of which the industry contributes Rs 200 Crore towards Government
functioning. The industry provides direct employment to about 80,000
people and is a source of indirect employment for nearly 3 lakh. The
Indian Rubber Industry has always played an important role towards
development in the country and events like these keep the various
organizations involved with rubber research and technology posted with
latest developments the world over.

The
chief patron for the conference, Mr. R. P.Singhania, MD JK Industries
Limited, echoed the importance of the rubber industry and said,
rubber
in its various product forms, is present in every sphere of life and
continues to be an important input for automotive application. To meet
the rapidly changing demands of the auto industry, Indian Rubber
Industry will have to pay focused attention to build various skills and
developmental capabilities through continuous Research and Development,
market and customer analysis and marketing and e-business among the
suppliers.
The basic objectives behind organizing the conference is to provide a
common forum for all Asian countries to come together and work on joint
strategies to further expand the opportunities keeping in mind the fact
that Asian markets presently constitute the second-largest consumers of
natural rubber and have recorded much higher growth rates than its
European counterparts. Experts from leading Asian markets such as Japan,
China, Malaysia, Korea besides USA, Germany & The Netherlands, are
coming together for the first time on a joint platform to discuss
emerging market scenarios and technological developments in what is
being billed as the largest industry event in Asia in natural rubber
segment.

The Chairman of the Indian Rubber Institute, Mr. S.N. Chakravarty, said,
the event will provide an opportunity to the Indian Rubber
Industry to have a glimpse of the international achievements in the
field of rubber and allied areas, interact with the latest technologies
available the world over and identify major thrust areas for future
growth to face the challenges offered by liberalization and
globalization of the Indian economy. He also added that the
event would formalise the foundation of
Asian Rubber Forum
as well as
Federation of Rubber Organizations of India.
The three day expo, from the 28 till the 30 of November, is jointly
organized by the
Indian Rubber Institute and
Indian Rubber
Manufacturers Research Association, in association with
JK Tyre
and other key industry players.

Indian Rubber Institute, though founded In India in
the year 1946, was inaugurated in its present form on the 17th
September, 1988, at New Delhi. It is a no profit making professional
organization running for the last 5 decades on voluntary work of experts
from industry and institute and is devoted to the promotion of rubber
technology. The organization also conducts educational courses and
seminars in the filed of rubber technology.
