Care & Maintainance

Optimum performance can be obtained from a tyre only if it is taken care of and maintained properly according to the guideline listed below. The tyres are designed to carry a specific load at a specified inflation pressure when mounted on a specific rim. Variation in any of these parameters will severely affect the tyre performance.
Overinflation
Weather CrackingTyres run in overinflated condition will be susceptible to :
  • Increased tread wear at the centerline area
  • Reduced traction in high torque service
  • Weather cracking
  • Concussion failures

Under-inflation
Tyres run in under-inflated condition will be susceptible to :
  • Rapid & uneven tread wear
  • Sidewall cracks
  • Sidewall deformations & buckling
  • Slippage on rims
  • Tread separation

Inflation Pressure
  1. Tyre inflation pressure should correspond to the actual load on the tyre (Refer to the Load - Inflation Pressure Table) which will include the weight of the vehicle plus fuel, tyres, rims, implements and all other accessories and equipments.
  2. Inflation pressure must be maintained through regular checks by a special low pressure gauge. The gauge must be accurate and calibrated. Inflation pressure must be checked when the tyre is cold since air pressure rises when the tyre becomes warm after running.
  3. Always use valve sealing caps to prevent loss of air.
  4. Do not use the standard gauge to measure the inflation pressure of a fluid - ballasted tyre as it will be damaged. Use a special air - water gauge. The valve should be at the bottom of the rim while measuring. Care should be taken to prevent air leakage as the air volume is relatively smaller and even a small air leakage will result in much higher reduction in air pressure when compared with a tyre filled only with air.
Filamant Damage
Fitment
  1. Rear tractor tyres are directional tyres and must be fitted on the vehicle so that the tyre rotates in the direction as indicated by the arrow on the sidewall.
  2. Tyres should be clean and casing must be free from any foreign objects or water.
Cuts and Damages
  1. Tyres must be thoroughly inspected for any damages on a regular basis. Any injury or cut on the tread or sidewall, if repairable must never be neglected. Otherwise these will grow on further use, collect moisture, dirt & dust and ultimately damage the carcass which will result in tyre failure.
  2. Avoid running the tyres over sharp objects to prevent concussion failure.

Weather cracking
Cracks on the rubber surface develop due to sunlight, ozone or electrical discharge like welding arc. Tyres must be protected from these elements. An opaque and water-proof covering can be used when the tyre is not in use. Even a good coating of mud may be helpful.

Spinning Drive - wheels
Careless application of high torque available from the tractor will cause the drive-wheels to spin, resulting in erosion, chipping, chunking or tearing of rubber from the tread surface.

Slippage on rim
Tyre may slip on the rim for :
  • Dirty / rusty rims
  • Rim undersize
  • Under - inflation
  • Excessive lubrication while mounting
  • Improper seating of the beads on the rim

The slippage will tear away the valve from the tube. To prevent this demount the tyre, clean the tyre beads and rim, remount using proper lubricant and inflate to the required inflation pressure.
