Karun Chandhok and Kaushek triumph
at Final round of Third JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship


Winners TeamIn a nail-biting finish to Third JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship, Karun Chandok and Kaushek Harita, both of whom had made their motorsport debut at this year’s nation’s only motorsport racing championship, left the other participants and motorsport freaks all over the country amazed with their spectacular performance. At the final round of Third JK Tyre National Racing Championship, which concluded on Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Sriperumbudur, Karun and Kaushek won their respective group races, with Karun registering two exciting wins at both Esteem 10-lap and 15-lap events. Karun, who was leading the championship uptil now with a total tally of 82 points, has thus emerged as unbeaten India’s new motorsport stalwart. A total of 34 participants raced at the final round of this Championship under different classes.

The final round of Third JK Tyre National Racing Championship didn’t fail to appetite its fans with extraordinary dose of high-speed thrill and display of driving maneuver, admist few accidents, as 34 motorsport enthusiasts made their final attempt to win the coveted title. Credited as springboard to discover and launch new motorsport talent in the country, the Third JK Tyre National Racing Championship has also given the nation a new reason to celebrate as all are expectedly looking at this year’s discovery, Karun, the 16-year-old son of motorsport veteran Vicky Chandok, who has continued his family tradition of excelling in motorsports.

This final round also witnessed, for the first time in the nation, 90-minute new-style ‘Endurance Race’, A staggered event, which saw two drivers in a car, taking on the steering wheel alternatively for 25 & 20 minute drive respectively and also changing car tyres at the pit stop at the end of each stage, with the time to change tyres also being counted as overall time to complete the race.

T.R. Radha Selvaraj, who at the end of fourth round of this Championship was at the third position in Esteem class, did not participate at this final round.
